Wissenschaft und Aussenpolitik. Beiträge zur Tagung anlässlich des 50. Jubiläums der Schaffung des ersten Postens eines Schweizerischen Wissenschaftsattachés
(Quaderni di Dodis – studi, vol. 1)
October 1, 2008 marked the 50 year anniversary of the creation of the first scientific attaché at the Swiss embassy in Washington. Today, 17 Swiss scientific attachés are stationed abroad. They work at at the Swiss embassies or a «Swissnex», a house dedicated to the exchange of science. So far, there has been done only limited research on the historical context and the development of scientific foreign policy. In December 2008 the Diplomatic Documents of Switzerland (DDS), in collaboration with the State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER) and with the support of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) organised an international conference which aimed to present the history and the current tasks of the Swiss scientific attachés. The findings of this conference are now being published in the present volume.
