Sacha Zala elected President of the International Committee of Historical Sciences

At its centenary congress, marking 100 years since its founding, the International Committee of Historical Sciences (ICHS)—the world organisation representing the historical sciences—held its General Assembly on 27 August 2026. It elected Sacha Zala, Director of the research centre Dodis and Professor of History at the University of Bern, as President of CISH.

Zala joined the CISH Board as Treasurer in 2017 and served as President of the Swiss Society for History (SSH) from 2012 to 2026. He succeeds Catherine Horel of France, who was elected President of CISH in 2022. He has been a driving force behind the renewal and professionalisation of CISH—efforts that have now culminated in the successful adoption of the organisation’s new Constitution.
