Dr Francesca Zilio, associate researcher

Studies in political science and international relations at the University of Trieste (Italy) and at the Humboldt University, Berlin. Binational PhD in history of international relations at the Sapienza University, Rome, and the Friedrich-Meinecke Institute of the Freie Universität Berlin.

As of 2008 teaching assistant at the University of Trieste's department of the history of international relations (Prof Dr Georg Meyr, Prof Dr Giulia Caccamo). In 2008 at the Federal Foreign Office's Political Archive as holder of a scholarship awarded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). 2009 to 2011 holder of a scholarship awarded by the Centro Universitario Cattolico (Catholic University Centre), Rome. 2013 to 2014 holder of a DAAD post-doc scholarship at the Freie Universität Berlin's Friedrich-Meinecke Institute, under supervision of Prof Dr Oliver Janz. In 2013 and 2014, lecturer at the Istituto per la ricerca sul negoziato, Gorizia (Italy), in the history of the post-WWII FRG, a course forming part of the MA in preparation for the diplomatic service. In 2014, research assistant to Prof Dr Marina Cattaruzza at the University of Bern's department of history. As of October 2015, associate researcher at the research centre of the Diplomatic Documents of Switzerland (DDS).

Research interests

Foreign policy in post-WWII Italy, Switzerland, and the FRG; Switzerland's promotion of its image in foreign countries; history of diplomacy; Nation Branding; Cold War and détente.
