Behind the name Swiss Diplomatic Documents (SDD) is a project aiming to publish key documents on Swiss foreign policy.
The work of Swiss Diplomatic Documents is both academic and practical in nature. It is the job of the editors responsible to provide researchers and practitioners with the official sources in printed and digital form that they need to reconstruct and gain an understanding of the history of Swiss foreign policy.
The relevant documents are selected and edited by a research group made up of a number of Swiss universities which is also responsible for editing the body of academic work.
A first series of 15 volumes (Vols. 1-15 on the period 1848-1945),
published between 1979 and 1997, already exists as a printed
publication of documents on file. Six volumes
(vols. 16-21) have been published as part
of the second series covering the era of Swiss foreign minister Max
Petitpierre (1945-1961).
In addition to the conventional publication of records, the DoDiS
Internet Database allows virtual access to a large number
of documents which are available as digital source material. It also
provides a wealth of information on Swiss and international personalities
and organizations who were active in postwar foreign policy. Some
files
about subjects will be available.
The research group has developed into a competence centre for the history of Swiss foreign policy. Its researchers publish articles on selected specific issues, organize colloquia and speak at conferences.
